8x8 oil on Gesso board
I am really enjoying how Gesso board helps me to stay loose.

Thank you, Maria! I am planning to try this again eventually, with fewer branches ( = it will be interesting to see the difference.

Wow. awesome Christine. Love your warm highly saturated colours. I do agrees with Michael about the cutting back on branches but then if you like it that way, well all good.

And Micheal, it's pretty funny that you mention what you did. I kind of predicted that you would. I totally understand what you are saying. My main reason for choosing this scene was all those horizontal branches just catching the light in front of that strong background shadow. But after I'd finished painting the scene, I was so happy with it that I almost decided not to put them in. It really didn't need them. But I went for it anyway because they appealed to me so strongly. When I stood back a few feet I just fell in love with it. (I know, maybe sometimes we are afraid to feel that way, but I did) and I was so glad I put them in. At a distance, it just says what I wanted it to, so this time I'm going to leave them in. But I agree, usually less can be more. Thanks for your feedback. I always appreciate it! ( =

Great color harmony, Christine, and the brushwork/edges are v v nice too - these paintings feel like they were done with confidence!

Christine, wonderful rhythm of lines and space!!!  ....  you know, you might have too many of those small branches? ....  I would erase a bunch of those on that foreground tree and some in the background ... just too nervous looking and busy ... they compete with the nice rhythms you have set up with the tree trunks ... I think a few branches and we will get the story. :)
