16x20 oil ...after Michelangelo, who painted this fresco on the Sistine Chapel ceiling. This was the most challenging learning experience for me.....!

Hi Michael.....Initially, I tried "alla prima",  and it started muddying up, because oil allowed me to play too much with the colors! ( a habit I am trying to break! )... I discovered the only way to get the "glow" was to apply the "indirect method" where I glazed each layer and allowed each layer to dry before applying the next one (this took me weeks) !!!... I swore I would never attempt to paint after Michelangelo or any of the "Old Masters"again!.......well.... I've already started another one....I guess some artists don't mind suffering and or pulling the hairs out of their brushes 8-).......seriously though, for me the thrill came when I completed the piece and tried to figure out where this finished painting came from ... I sometimes think it was "divine inspiration"  with Michelangelo looking over my shoulder the whole time! Ha !.. My classical training started when I was just a kid who lived a couple of blocks away from the Philadelphia Art Museum (the one in the "Rocky" movie) where I would frequently visit the works of the "Old Masters and tried to figure out how they did it...then from there, I went to school and majored in art and then, as an adult, when I realized I didn't know it all, I took and am still taking workshops and was lucky enough to find Richard and his group of budding artists ! ( really good ones, you included).... Thanks so much for your interest.....happy painting !.....also, if you ever go to Rome (perhaps you've already been there?)  and experience Michelangelos' work in person...... it is an extraordinary feast for the senses !!!

Wow! ..this is pretty cool Luba ...are you any classical training? ..it sure looks it. Was this an indirect method? The rob glows like it might have been glazed?   Anyone who is interested in good composition, should really study the old masters .....their designs are just breath taking.
