:) !!!
I like this version much better!!! Nice unequal space division and the roses look important now ..... they are the main show, not the background. Very good painting.
Thank you Jess!!
The roses are beautifully painted ... as well as the other elements in your painting. As a suggestion only.... not a critique .... I think the composition would have been more powerful if the roses were placed higher on the picture plane. Roses have an "air" of nobility to them ...especially red ones. Below eye level regulates the roses to a less than "regal" role. When the subject is placed above eye level. ... as if you are looking up at the subject ... It gives the subject more importance. Note that in portraits of adults ... especially "important" people like kings, queens, presidents, etc. ..... they are painted as if the viewer is looking up at them. Portrait of children are the opposite .. they are usually placed below our eye level ... to emphasize their innocence and vulnerability. The same goes for a landscape, if we put a house on a low horizon, no matter how well we paint the house .. the house is regulated to a more submissive role. Now, having said all that, there is nothing "wrong" with your painting ...it just comes down to what feeling you want to convey to the viewer.
