Thanks, Jessica
A lovely painting, Jon - the church building is so interesting & the colour is beautiful everywhere!
Thanks, Michael and Aurelia!! - OK - I'll do it as soon as I get time
Nice painting Jon. Yes, I agree with Michael about those warm shadows and headstone. You have some lovely light going on here.
Well that was a very good idea Jon!! ..... just put the warm reflected light .. into ... the cool shadowed wall .. just like you did with the other planes in shadow. BTW, Jon, if you count the headstones from the lower right corner .. the 6th headstone .. the one next to the path .... I would suggest you take that out. The cadence of those headstones is too regular ... taking that one out will give you a more irregular cadence ..or rhythm. I really love this painting!!! .. as I commented earlier, you really captured the illusion of light and shadow!!!! :)).
Thanks, Michael! - good thoughts - you're right - I got carried away injecting reflected light at the end there. I'll give it another pass - see what happens!
Beautiful illusion of light on this painting Jon. Very good movement through your composition. I love your luminous shadows that contrasts nicely with your thick opaque passages. Good edges Jon ..... a few tangents .. but you probably have already aware of those. I don't remember the exact terminology of this, but it refers to the importance of continuity of light in your painting. In your painting, the shadow sides of the headstones and church are that very nice cool with warm reflections .... except the two sides which you painted warm? ... why? You have the correct value there, but the wrong temperature ... it is a little confusing as to what planes we are looking at ... light planes or shadow planes? So, bottom line ... keep the continuation of the light ....
