18x36 oil on canvas. I used a palette knife for this one and feel like I need to work on more larger pieces. Any advice on getting the same loose and spontaneous feel that you get with a smaller piece? Anything I should change? I'm not sure with this one.

Thanks so much Richard! The photo quality isn't so great but I've retaken it now. It means so much to me that you noticed the movement and flow I tried to give it! Thanks for taking the time to comment. I know you're busy, but you've made my day!:)
Beautiful! So much better! More variety throughout. Great!
I've revised this one two times since and was just contacted by someone who saw the original one on my blog. They were interested in purchasing it. Unfortunately they don't want the new one. Here it is- I still need to take some better photos. This was taken with my phone. So what do you think? Did I improve it or make it worse?
Thank you Jessica and Michael! Good question Michael!
Richard- I just saw that you're going to be at the Plein Air Convention in Carmel! I'm only about 6 hours drive from there. I wish I could go but just saw the price of admission.($995) Oh well. I look forward to seeing your paintings from there.
As for this painting- I think I'm going to start another one and try to stick with larger tools. I also used an oil stick for the first time (naples yellow) and am not happy with consistency. Has anyone used an oil stick with success?
Beautiful Jennifer. My wife and I were in Provence looking at a lavender field such as this one .... the owner came out of her house and chased us away!! ....I always wonder why you never see many lavender field paintings from the French Impressionists? ... did France grow lavender back then?
Very beautiful, Jennifer! Reminds me of the lavender fields I saw in Provence. Gorgeous colour!
Hi Richard. Thanks! You know, I consciously tried doing those things (even dancing) and still kept ending up super close, using the smaller knife! I guess it will just take some practice and confidence. I think I may just need a longer arm too! haha. Thanks so much for your expertise Richard. I'm hoping to be able to join in on this month's workshop and it looks like I'm going to have to do last month's too. It was a good one!
Nice one Jennifer. To get looser you might try standing back more, using your whole body in the paint strokes. Dance with it. Use a bigger brush, bigger palette knife.
