Thanks Jessica! I primed the canvas with that color (with acrylic) and was trying to let it show through a little. I like how it glows on the road. You can see this better in person. I used more of a wash on the road and the darks (like Richard has taught) and resisted adding more paint to it. My goal on this one was to be loose and fast. I haven't done much plein air painting so I was "practicing" for that. I think my biggest hesitation is that I'll get out there and try to paint fast and end up with a mess.
Yes, I agree - it really gives the feeling of travelling & movement! Lovely colour - I like the interesting splashes of pink in the foliage, trees & road shadows.
Thank you Michael! I hope I didn't make you too road sick! HaHa I did this one from one of my many photos (I can't believe how many pictures I toom my trip to Maui last year.(I can't believe how many pictures I took!) My husband was driving, so we were actually moving! But somehow I managed to get a clear shot. Maybe it was at one of the rare times that he actually slowed down for me. I'm ready to go back!
Hi Jennifer, you really, really captured the feeling of driving down the road!! Your undulations in the road make me a little car sick!! ...just kidding ........but they are really convincing. I like the way you have subordinated everything else, making us stay on the road ...and wondering what is around the bend. All those crazy brush strokes in the trees enhance the feeling that we are moving along down this road. Geez, I love this painting!!!! It is one of those paintings that you do not know why you like it so much ...its just a feeling you get. Nice job.
