I have followed this, and I what I have to say is just one thing! You are great!!!! Never give up! You had the courage of presenting your work in a gallery and to put it on sale! AND you sold! Super WOW!! Many people do not have the guts of doing so, and there is where I include myself! SO, just be happy, that even though you consider it little it's a whole lot what you have done!!!!!! :) :D :)  !!!

Aurelia & Donna  - I've been following your comments on how your events went & was sorry to hear they were a little disappointing.  I think just having reached the place where you have enough beautiful paintings to put on an exhibition is an accomplishment in itself.  I had piano teachers who felt that their students should put on a recital & perform their pieces once a year, to show that a certain stage had been reached, allow others to enjoy their progress & then to move on from there, which is sort of similar to what you have done - you've reached an important milestone in your work!  It's beautiful,  professional, a pleasure to see & worth displaying!  You are both such talented artists!

I just read something today about an artist called Ingalvur av Reyni who lived & painted in the Faroe Islands.  Apparently he once sold all his paintings at an exhibition & he found that a cause for deep concern, because it suggested that his work had ceased to be challenging!!  So that's a whole 'nother interesting & encouraging take on selling all your paintings :)

Thank you for your encouragement, Britt.  You have a very wise husband!  I am glad to say that I have sold a further 4 paintings this weekend thanks to my brother.  I think I must ask him to be my agent!  All those paintings at least covered my framing cost.

I also believed that to be a real artist, or rather professional, you must sell good, but I see many bad art sell just because the artist is a good marketer.  But it would be nice if your art sells good, because paint, canvas and framing is expensive and to keep you painting, you need to sell from time to time to keep going.  But on the other hand, I think a REAL artist NEEDS to paint.  It is something that drives us.  Maybe a kind of addiction?

Aurelia, I feel your pain!  I spent the summer doing art festivals.  It was an emotional roller-coaster! I tried it, and it wasn't for me.  I began to realize that I was more disappointed than I thought I would be.  Somehow, along my journey, I had started to believe that to be a REAL artist meant to be a good seller.  Once my darling hubby figured out my wrong thinking, he said  " I climb mountains.  I call myself a real climber with no hesitation.   Is that true? Would I be more of a REAL climber if I got paid to do it by becoming a guide?  I don't think anyone would say that is true! "

Also, it's wonderful that you sold a painting with so few people attending!  Your work is wonderful, and you already have a style and collection that looks distinctive! You are a REAL artist!

Thank you Lori and Jon for your kind words of encouragement.  Yes, we paint because we love and enjoy it.  Forward march ...

Yeah, that's a pity. It's hard to sell paintings! There's a lot of work, and a lot of set backs on the journey - but I must say, on the different forums I've been on, there's been quite a few people who have perserved and who have made wonderful progress. We do it 'cos we love and enjoy it, right? Both of you, Aurelia and Donna, are at a level one could only dream of a few years back :) - take heart and keep in the paint - patience is power!

Well I applaud both of you for not only having the courage to put your work out there, but also--somebody let you exhibit in their space! That in itself is fantastic in my eyes.  Now when you speak, go on the web, etc you can mention that your work was shown in such and such a gallery!  No one will ever ask you how many came - they will admire that you had a show and may think, who is this artist - I don't want to miss the next show!

And PS - Wish I could have been at both! I think you do wonderful paintings:)

Thank you for your encouragement, Donna.  I recon art is a luxury everywhere these days.  At least you have people that have showed up to looked at your lovely work!  You are right; we paint because we love it, so we will continue to do what we love.  Poor Van Gogh only sold one painting in his life, but keeps on painting, and looked at what his paintings sold for today. Poor guy! Your exhibition looks lovely in a lovely venue.  Thanks for sharing.
