Loved the colourful houses along the wharf, in a little island off the coast of Napoli. There was quite a dramatic sky on the day we visited, as a storm came up suddenly, bringing a sudden rain squall. Took lots of photos as soon as the sun came out!

Very beautiful painting. I see the point of Michael and agree with him. If you follow his suggestion, this painting will have a strong interest center, the church.  To be a center for the viewer to look at it longer time, the church, I think, needs more details , such as colour changes, more texture and detail description of the windows. Anyway, make it more interesting to look at.

If you do not have time to do so much work and change the concept, keep it as it is. To me, it is ok. As you colour blocks are so interesting combined together very harmonized, It is a pleasure to see it as a decorative painting without interesting center. Just enjoy the beautiful colours and how they change and call each other. But, of course, you are on the way of another style, a contemporary work.

Jessica, please do not take my comment too serious as those are just a thought without approved by any pro painters. By the way, I get flu, can not think well.  Anyway, I love this painting, strong impact , solid , happy and very decorative.Beautiful.

I see what you mean, Michael, thank you!  I'll give that a try!

Hi Jessica.  I think all you need to do is glaze over those houses at the bottom  ...just to desaturate  them somewhat.  It does not need to be a dramatic shift in tone ..just enough to make the church the most saturated color.  I don't think we necessarily want drama, just a little eye movement from the bottom to the top.

Thank you very much Michael & Ruby for your comments!

Michael, good idea to do that - I kind of liked the notan structure like this because I thought it made an interesting pattern, but keeping the brightest light on the church would make a more dramatic painting.  Maybe the eye bounces around a bit too much now!

Great composition Jessica!!  I would suggest that you tone down some of those buildings at the bottom ..everything is competing with the focal point ...your church?  You could put some of those buildings in shadow and slowly bring us up into the light until ...Bam!, we hit the sunlit church.
