11 x 14 Water Soluble Oils. Tried to paint plein air, got it laid in, but finished it inside. Too darn hot here in NM, will try Plein Air again in the Fall!

Hi Michael!  We have lots of flowers in our yard, and lots of butterflies; however, I really haven't seen any butterflies enter, or exit, into the house!   My deceased father-in law built it years ago,  I think he always had the appropriate furnishings inside, which we don't.  Just a reminder of him!  Pic is of butterfly on our dwarf peach tree, a couple of months ago.

Butterfly house!! ... what do you do to get the butterfly's to come into it? ..I am assuming it is functional?   We just planted a bunch of Milkweed in our garden so Monarchs can do their thing ... happy butterfly watching, my friend!! :))

Oh thank you Michael!!!  I  had thought I would dull down the white flowers of the Arizona Rosewood,  and the butterfly house is kind of too cutesy, but hadn't considered the palm tree. I see what you mean.    I also had noticed that those few little darks were too dark, and thought about adding some willow leaf shapes over them to dull them down.  Soooo  appreciate your critiques, you are totally right on, you are like my painting GURU!  I'll try this again, and use your suggestions. Thank you!

Candi, a wonderful painting, very exciting, vibrant, and happy!!    May I suggest you try this experiment:  Take your hands and cover the Palm tree trunk (not the foliage), the white flowers by the wall, and  the bird feeder ...tell us what you think about the new composition.  Those isolated darks rising from behind the wall are distracting and not needed to tell your story.    Also, think about giving the lilac bush form ...give it a half tone and shadow side ..I assume your light source is coming from the right ..so ..the bush will cast a shadow onto the wall ..I see you have indicated it a little ...but extend that dark back into the background ..so you set up a contrast of light and dark with the bush ..keep it the same value as you foreground grass in shadow.  Don't get me wrong, you have a beautiful painting, just suggesting a few ideas you might want to think about.

Thanks Susan!  Maybe I will come Saturday, it is supposed to be 104!  Love the Fall and Winter here, but have to get out super early to walk my dog in the summer.  I stay in for the most part the rest of the day (don't even get in the pool when it is this hot).  Good thing about it, I'm inside attempting to paint artichoke flower heads that were cut this morning!  Should have started them in oil or acrylic though, as just realized my liquid friskit (for my watercolors) is dried up!

Beautiful painting! You should come up here to Cape Cod, it's so cold today I have on a light jacket!!!

Thanks Cristina, you are the sweetest!  I'm just not too sure about how "strokey" my work is (or maybe that is just my crazy style).
