Well, I am self learned till date. This is charcoal portrait done out of postcard. It is like a spotlight like effect so the background and some of the detail on the periphery are blurred out and the photo taken from the portrait slightly took off the shade as well. the only thing i like about this portrait is the beard which i intended to make as the final touch. thanks for giving so much of incredible comments. since i had been using charcoal for long time, i have been now learning about the colors and it is a tough job to be naturalist or even impressionist. so only few of the charcoal which i did years back are displayed.

This is a very impressive portrait, full of character and interest. The viewer is made to wonder where this man comes from, all that he has seen in life, and what he is thinking. All in all, a highly effective work. I would like to know if you studied any particular technique to achieve this skill. Some of the effects are similar to the work and teaching of Darrel Tank who I have been learning about lately. My only very small critique would be the treatment of the subject's right shoulder (the one on the viewer's left).  It seems to be placed a bit high and out of perspective. If working from a photo it is easy to change perspective in one area and then throw another area off a bit. I could not duplicate any of this so please be aware that my critique is only meant to be helpful. You have a tremendous talent and impeccable skill. You are sure to go very far in the field. It must bring you a great deal of satisfaction. Keep up the great work and we look forward to seeing more of it!
