Congratulations Dirk. Very well deserved. Stu
Congratulations Dirk! :) It was a great study for me. Beautifully done. Thank You.
Dirk, thanks for posting your setup. Per my prior comments, I think a little more warmth in the lighted right side of the jug and also transmitted in the translucent grapes would make your painting even stronger. Some of this may be in your photo of the painting, but I suspect your primary yellow is either neutral or on the cool side. I do this all the time also; i.e. assume that because it's yellow it's warm and add a cool yellow in and expect it to warm up. Stu
Dirk, Thank you. Im really learning and observing what you see thru your eyes. I can connect more to the individual artist and the energy that is flowing thru. Not only that..but it helps me understand to see and observe the different ray of colors that are being picked up by the artist. Im no a master, im just beginning, but what i do know is that i do have an intuitive sight of perception that i pick up. Im allowing it to come thru on canvas just like everybody else. Im after light just like you and many others ( im assuming, can't put everybody in that category). Thank You Dirk. Let's go as far as we can with this. Hugs. :)
Thanks everyone for the comments & critiques. I'll put up a pic of the set up Marta.
Marta, I know what you mean about the pear. Dirk, this is a wonderful piece. if you dark the left side and bottum of the pear a little bit more, think it will looks more around instead of overall yellow impression. Just a thought.
Dirk, i like this. The only thing is when i stepped back from the computer to see the light affect, the pear did jump out and it took away the focus off the grapes and jug, maybe toning it down a little? The shadows are perfectly blended, something that i'm having a hard time doing. The jug is clean and it makes a statement of it's own. I like the soft edge on the handle and the softness of the left bunch of grapes. Oh..one more thing it would have been nice to have seen your set-up. May be next time? Other that that you get my vote. Great study for me.
My only comment on a way to improve this painting would be to add a notch or another branch at the top of the grapes that are hanging from the jug to make me believe that the grapes are hanging there on the lip of the jug. It appears that this bunch of grapes might be going to fall! That's it!
This is I my favorite painting so far. Mostly because the drawing and proportions are very well handled and also the edges and atmospheric perspective makes this composition easy to view. The light and shadow areas are also depicted nicely and the palette is very harmonious. Realistic but also sensitive! Great painting!
Very realistic, your light effect is tirrefic and your colors are highly harmonezed. Your painting is very comforting.
