La Libertad by Sharon Repple acrylic 16 x 20
My reference photo was taken by Herbert Handal of the coastal town of La Libertad "Liberty" in El Salvador. I usually use my own photos but I couldn't resist this amazing scene. I'm almost finished and would appreciate your insights on anything that needs to be tweaked.

Thanks Jim and Dr. Chan for your encouraging comments
I like the way you kept the colors clean and vibrant. Very attractive and beautiful.
Love the color and the brushwork. A really great concept!
Thanks Deb, this is one that I am pleased with how it turned out.
I love this....such a great painting!
Michael, thanks so much for noticing the things that I worked to achieve. I worked to blur the objects in the distance so that they gave the appearance of buildings, boats and people shapes without any detail. As you said, I made each boat more detailed as I came forward. I added the light on the pavement between the first two boats to break up a solid area of shadow in my reference photo. Then I had a fantastic time painting the worn paint colors on the first boat. Again, I appreciate your taking the time to comment
Whoa!! ..Sharon! ...this is pretty doggone nice!!!:) I love the composition, I love the colors, and I love how you softened the background and brought us slowly to the front by making each element a little sharper. Don't mess with the "black pot" ....I see it as some kind of shape ...I see it like the eye would actually see it when focused on the yellow boat.....in our peripheral vision!! ..so don't mess with it! Great painting!!! I will put this into my files for future studying.
Thanks Jessica, good suggestion
Beautiful painting - wonderful colour everywhere! Especially love how you've let the colours mix into each other on the bottom boat. Just a tiny suggestion - the light on the boat 2nd from the top is taking me out of the painting a bit as I follow that bright shape; maybe darken it a just a little as it goes towards the edge of the painting?
Thanks Jon and Ann for your great comments. Ann, your comment about the "little black pot" is just what I needed to know. I know what the object is but you think I put a magic trick in my painting, too funny. It is actually the back of a boat on wheels so I will define it so that it is more recognizable. Thanks! No glasses needed.
