Oil on Canvas Board

Alla Prima.
I wanted to paint fast and impressionistically. Just letting go and trying to create a sense of who I sense this man is, beneath the public personae. 90 minutes later, feeling elated, I stopped.

Michael!! ...this is great!!! l love the the loose style here!! WOW.
Wow! Beautiful!
Mario - Thanks for the comment. The brushstrokes become like language, the way of talking about the subject.
Kim - Thanks for looking in. You used the right word - 'allowing' - if we get our conscious nit-picking control nature out of the way and allow things to flow, the result can be wonderful. And never panic :-)
Britt - A pleasure to see your comment. The Real lies in the immediacy of the brushstroke, I think. It's very present, isn't it, in a loose portrait like this? It is like dance, happening right in front of your eyes.
Nice! Great energy! There is something so much more REAL in a loose portrait that is well done (obviously, this is) than a photo realistic portrait. Your elation is well-won ; ).
Great work Michael. Allowing the paint to flow has made this a great impressionist painting. Deep and moody....Brilliant!
Exellent job Michael, great brushstrokes
