Oil on 12"x16" board. This was a quick one and a half hour study. I am always trying to lighten my palette, so I mixed all the paint first, but when it came to the darks, there I am feeling forced to go dark again. maybe the photo is a bit darker than the original.

Thanks you Ningning. I agree with you about the water. Don't have time to correct but will soon.
Oh how pretty! Sure like the foreground gives it great depth............. Smiles to you : ))
Elfrida, this is very beautiful too. One suggestion, that water might be darker to seperate from the sky a little bit more obviously. Now , the reflection of the glowing and the clouds on the water have almost same value with the sky. Just for your reference.
nice!
Very nice Elfrida!
Thank you so much for sharing, Michael. Its amazing what you can pick up in bits and pieces. I checked out your site and see that you have diagnosed and analysed your work in steps. Being a retired teacher, I know that doing something like that to teach other people is actually a good way to learn and gain confidence. You are also very supportive of others. Thanks again.
Thank you Elfrida! ...I have been painting for about 11 years now. I do a lot of plein air ..but I am kind of slowing down a little with that. I did not go to art school ..I just study a lot, go to workshops, and paint, paint!! I feel that my painting ..or understanding of it ..has greatly improved since I joined Richards workshops!!! ...Also, when you see other artists work here and join in on the discussions, it tends to reinforce your technical and creative portfolio ..so to speak.
Thank Michael. I am so impressed by your work in general and have been since I connected to the Complete Artist and the challenges. Have you been painting long? do a lot of Plien air? Did you attend art school? Your work just gets richer and richer all the time.
I think your darks are fine Elfrida. Your painting is wonderful!!!
