Thank you George! I was going to change some of it, but I couldn't find the time! I will try to 'save' all the suggestions in my brain for future paintings!!!

Your welcome Silvana.  Here is something that might help you? ... If you can think in terms of:  This is not water, sand, or a boat I am painting ........But............Shapes......and I must make them INTERESTING.  If you can really think in those terms (right brain thinking), then you will begin to design your paintings instead of coping the photo.  I am not always successful doing this myself .... as Stu pointed out in my painting, "First Sign of Spring", the large tree does not have a good shape ..and he is correct!!   I forgot to think of it as a shape, and tried to paint the TREE!!  So do not think of painting the sand and water ...Think.... I am going to paint some interesting, abstract shapes and when you stand back from the painting, it will be wet sand, pools of water, and little rivulets.  I enjoy answering questions because it keeps me "tuned in" on doing these things myself!!  so it is never a bother.

Wow Michael! Thank you for all the information! It IS really a challenge to do all those things and let the eye follow the path towards the focal point! I will definitely give it a try! I am still a bit hard and I still try to copy what I see... although it never comes out the same...Thank you for your time!!!

Well I kind of moved my cropping rectangle around a bit to get a good composition?  If you leave it where the boat is now, with no cropping, then you must do some redesigning of  the water patterns or sand patterns so they move your eye INTO the boat and provide some nice abstract shapes at the same time .... If you decide to crop the bottom ..which is also a good idea,  you still must come up with a better design leading you into the focal point ..the boat, and a better abstract design.   I personally prefer diagonal actions lines leading into the painting, and  I try to avoid parallel lines.  With so much area between the bottom of the picture and the boat, that area will need to be a little entertaining ......but I would difinately make the boat and its reflection and the rope, the main attraction...... I think it would be kind of fun to experiment with it ..it is up to you, the artist, to impose your will or  composition upon  the picture ...nature rarely supplies it.  I might give this one a go ... it will be challenging.

Thank you Michael! I was thinking in cutting the bottom half... Do you think it would look better? I thought the dinghy would stand out a bit more...

Good job Silvana.  I was thinking of painting this one myself.  Love the "spattering" technique.
