Hi Michael! Thanks! Yes.... incredible the way one can't see things... It has its common sense... I have to learn how to 'look at' everything... I have to change that umbrella too!! But with all its faults,I think this is my best painting so far...  !

Hi Silvana ....A lot of things are working real well on your painting!!! good values, colors, edges, and drawing.  I would like to see the cast shadow of the upper roof extend onto the roof below ...the cast shadow that is there now, would not stop abruptly where the wall stops?  Not only would it be logical, but it will help break up the shape of the roof.

Silvana, I had a problem to read the comments yesterday. Sorry to reply late. Thank you for your nice words. It is very good way to learn by painting the same subject several times. Some of our smart classmates are doing so and our teacher does it too. I will try it someday .

Hi Michael!  I really appreciate you are taking your free time in looking and commenting our work. It is always a pleasure to read! The information on the umbrella Is very valuable, I kept on looking at the painting and saying to myself that there was sth which was stil not good... and of course, you have nailed it! IT IS the umbrella. It is sooo flat and plain...

The reflections are painted in a horizontal way. Except the dark ones near the boats. It was a big vertical dark mass at the beginning... and painted over it with a lighter colour. These are acrylics, so there was difficult possibility in lightening the same colour... I still have that problem of not preparing enough of the same colour.. and then I have problems repeating it!

Hi Silvana, me again.  I meant to say that your concrete piers sit INTO the water nicely because of that little bit of dark transition between it and the water.  I had a little time this morning, so I am kind of taking a long look at some of the paintings submitted.

Hi Silvana,  I have a technical question for you.  Are you painting your reflections in vertical or horizontal strokes?  Your reflections of the pier are handled very well ..that little dark under each concrete block is what sets those down into the water and just on top!!!  I love the way you handled the transition from the blue water into the warm shallow part.  Your soft horizon line, being in direct contrast with the hard edge of the roof, really pushes that horizon line back ..excellent.  Just a ton of good stuff happening here. I also like the way you put the highlight on the concrete pier ..ONE stroke of paint and left it alone ...!!  Just for future reference to be filed away in your painting memory banks:  The umbrella has 3 planes.  Anytime you have a plane change, you must  have either a value, hue, or temperature change.  On my umbrella, I choose to use a hue and temperature change on the plane facing us.  Ask yourself, "How can I tie these darks together"? ..Your opportunity in your painting is the top wall. It  is in shadow and it could have a cast shadow on the roof ..which would tie the darks together.  You show a shadow being cast by the pipe, so it would be logical  that the wall would also cast a shadow.  I really enjoy seeing your confident brushstrokes on the wood piers, table, fence rails , and figures.
