I started it plein aire with Ann Turner, and then re-worked in studio. The scene was very beautiful however we kind of face the sun which is all we see is shadows. So, I changed as if the light is coming from left when I worked in studio.

Michael, if I remove the middle island should I also remove the piece of land at buttom left?

Hi Laura, great painting ! I like the purplie color in the water. Its interesting how we can stand side by side but have very different paintings !  This is my last post for a few days. We are going to Utah for my Moms 90th Birthday. When I come back I will post my late workshop painting. I had to rub out a wonky boat and need to fix it.

Great job on the water, trees, hills, and sky Laura!!!  I am really happy that you have a painting partner  with Ann.  Laura, you are going to hate me, but you do not need that large island shape in the middle of the water ..suggest you take it out ...and then bring down the reflections of the trees.  The resulting expanse of water, will set a peaceful mood.   The shape you have there is too "heavy" ...does noting for the composition and destroys the peaceful mood.  :)
