Great pointers Michael! Yo really do a wonderful job helping us all to see how we can improve how we observe and how we paint. So appreciated!
And Jim, I know Michael mentioned a lot, but just a hint of the nice orange reflected down int your water would go a long way too. I really like your overall painting and your thick painting style!

Jim, a very handsome painting!  Your composition looks good with all of your lines taking us to the focal point.  You have set up a nice color scheme of green, blue green, and blue ..with the orange red as the compliment. .. very nice.  A few thoughts.  Your f.c. is the orange red bush .. maybe give that shape a little more visual weight .. put some more interest around it.  Now, you have repeated this color in the left trees .. that is good ..but tone it down, it cannot compete with your f.c.  okay, the tree mass on the left ... take it all the way to the top and out ..the way you have them now makes the trees stunted .. painting is about illusion .. taking those trees higher will also push what is behind them into the distance ... illusion is everything when we are trying to make something three D on a two D surface. Okay, to harmonize your painting, but some of the blue color from the mountains into the water.  Make those tree mass reflections in the foreground a warm dark green. One last thing.  Create some rhythm in those distant tree masses by cutting the mountains into them .. give that mass an interesting shape and rhythm of line.
