10 x 10 inches, oil on canvas
My first workshop entry. I like my water, composition and rock faces but had the greatest difficulty with that rock out in the water and the foreground. Looking forward to your suggestions.

Dear Michael.  Well, I am humbled.  I just looked up your website and can see your vast experience and talent produces great works of art.  Thank you for taking your time to comment.  Please continue to offer your suggestions.  That's exactly why I have signed up for these workshops.

Thank you everyone for your comments.  I agree the rock is too big.  Too late to scrape down, but good suggestions on keeping it simpler.  In my rendition I didn't want as much glow as Richard's, just a touch, but I appreciate your thoughts. If I have time I will do another rendition

Welcome Debbie ! This is agreat site to get FREE advice from experienced artists like Michael. Just a few strokes on this and that as suggested by Michael and you will have a beautiful painting. I like the gradation of color you have painted on the main cliff .

Hi Debbie,  The rock that is troubling you is to big.  Suggest you carve into it with the water or just scrape it off and redo it.  make it much smaller and less prominent.  Also, just simplify it with a few dark and light shapes. On the foreground cliff, make it a little darker so there is more contrast with the cliff behind it ..it will push the main cliff back into space ..right now, you have them as the same value.  Debbie, you also need more glow ..try scraping down the area where the glow is and repainting that area ..use the technique Richard demonstrated ..

This is my first workshop entry, and I hesitated joining because I wasn't sure I could do these paintings.  My medium is watercolor and I very seldom use my oils because I didn't know where to start. Dark to light or vise versa.  Thank you for the redo advise.  I will see how it looks with sharper edges on the mountain.  My edges are usually too soft, and I need help with my values and use less details.

Great job Debbie! Yes, you can Redo and Upload more than one, or you can just remove the tag on this photo after you upload a new version.

Geez....I don't really know.  I did see another artist that submitted two paintings for the workshop.  It's a great question if you can redo and upload.  I need all the help I can get so any suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks for taking the time.  Debbie

Debbie, I see what you mean about the sharper edges.  I will correct it.  I'm new at this so do you know if I can redo and upload it again?

You have mastered the planes of the rocks.  Up close it would also be a great abstract paintings, as Richard Robinson described in one of his videos.  I like the purple mixed into the blue green water.  It is clean and simplified.  I'm taking these challenges to learn and be less detailed.  I do get wrapped in the details and forget the shapes and focal points.  Thank you for your suggestion.  I welcome any suggestions.  Sharon
