Went on a hike at this lovely spot with my youngest son - he wanted to take photos of the sunset & I did some plein aire painting - this is done at home in my studio afterwards, as I wasn't too pleased with what I did there!

Thanks a lot Michael & Joy - it's extremely helpful to have other artists critiquing our paintings  & giving ideas on how to improve them :)  Thank you Jon & Pauline for your kind comments!    Everyone here is so encouraging; it's really inspiring!  I am working on a larger canvas now, using this as my basis.

Hi Jessica, you did it ... It is done .... No need to go any further.  Once again, my favorite painting of yours.

Worked on this painting a bit more, trying to incorporate the good advice I was given - I think it's better, but think I'll leave it now & maybe work on a larger version before I muddle it up completely!

Thank you all for such encouraging & helpful comments!  I appreciate you taking the time to give me your thoughts on how to improve the painting, Michael & Joy.  Michael - I will make the changes you suggested & looking at your beautiful painting of Tuolumne Meadows, I see exactly what you mean & think it will really make a difference.  Joy, I see that it's confusing about the water - actually there were ripples in the water further away;  I guess I overdid it though, as it wasn't splashing on the shore!  The lower right area is a mixture of reflection & green algae that grows on this river; I'll work on it a bit more.  Thanks again for all the nice comments & helpful critiques!

Oh, forgot ..one more thing.  Take some of your sky color ..a little darker though ..and scumble sky reflection over the green reflections.....use horizontal strokes.   Take a look at my painting, "Through Tuolumne Meadow", to see what I am talking about.

Jessica ..this is beautiful!!!!  ...A great composition and color harmony.  I like the way you have your large mass .on the right ....and your smaller mass ..on the left ...excellent!  I like your variety of warm and cool greens and your distant greens.  A couple of ..kind of minor things ....try to paint your sky lighter then the water or your water darker then your sky.  Also:  the red bank on the right is floating ..it needs a dark shadow along the base ..and ...its reflection ..that will anchor the ground.  Suggest you put the red bank over there on the far lower  right ...into shadow ..there is too much contrast between it and the green reflection and it makes your eye go over there.   That will also make your focal point pop out a little more.  That's it!! ...My favorite painting of yours!!! :))
