Hello, All!
Hope you all are well. It's been months since I had a chance to paint anything. I FINALLY got a chance yesterday to go outside with my easel. This is my neighbors barn done en plein air. I added the flowers and the hay bales (from memory from another study). I challenged myself to get done in one hour. I went a little over, but there she is. Looking for C & C!

Thanks, Linda. It's not so vivid in reality, but the computer monitor shows it very hot/over saturated.

Wow! Thanks Ana. The painting is nowhere near as orange and hot in the lower half as it appears online. Something happens to the colors when I download a file. It's bad on my desktop and worse on my cell phone. Everything seems to get redder and more saturated.
Anyway, I will consider all your excellent advice if I decide to paint this in a larger studio format. I was outside and rushing when I did this, trying to push myself to work fast and looser. Like the fence which is actually there. I see that I didn't make all the right judgments in every case. That's why I love this board. Lots of great eyes to see things that I missed. Thanks again!

It is a beautiful painting, very vivid especially the bottom half. I like the barn and the trees beyond it, you have a good perspective.

The bottom half is beautiful in it's own right but, kind of cuts the painting in half because it's strong value. You used beautiful greys in the little fence behind the hay bales, you could use greys in the hay bales as well to calm them down, or you can cast tree shade on them and the footpath, in the foreground and that will take them out of focus and the attention will be on the middle picture and barn.

I like very much the footpath perspective and the light on in the middle of the painting but the fence cuts the way to the barn. I would shorten that fence with two or even three posts so one can walk to the barn and beyond. The red flower in the middle have the same value as the one in the shade but they are in the same plane with the middle footpath. You should highlight them as well for a more realistic look.

The barn has lovely mellow colours you could leave it as it is, first it's not a new one second it's in full sunlight.

After all it is indeed a lovely painting, full of action. Cheers, Ana

Thank you, Cristina! I like your paintings, too. There is a dreamlike quality to them that is appealing.

Thanks, Joy for taking the time to comment. The barn is gray. I warmed it up a little with some burnt sienna. But if I do this painting larger, I was thinking about trying to render it with more of a barn red color..to set it off more against the greens. You and I are thinking alike! Thanks, again.
