LOL, the dark dots on the pears were the blemishes on the fruit. I had them painted without and somone said it made the painting more authintic (spelling?) so I added them in. The idea is to see the colors of the pears as values and paint a black and white painting. It is rather hard for me to see a value in a yellow pear, then a value in the lights and a value in the shadows. That is the exercise I am working on though. My new works will be - same exercise - but painting a onion in 9 values. I had that in my kitchen already. I did make it to the store and bought some oranges and peaches. Those peaches are in grave danger of being eaten before I get them painted though. They are begging for mercy (just pretending there about them talking to me--he he). Ro

Dear, Roena!
Thank you again for you nice words about my painting, as I understand it's just a coincidence made it. I do not have patience to study, so I always have gaps....
Yes, I saw your B/W study, after you mentioned it, because you know I did not have time to browse the site last weeks and neither I got an email. You did it fine, I really like it! Even though I have no idea what was that about ##? sorry!!!!! One thing disturbing me, those darker dots on pears? I know how hard it is to paint shape, so you did just great. My suggestion is, next time you choose something for drawing take a closer look at it's shape, that they would differ . Oh, it's too hard for me...............LOL
About translating with a program, I tried one for Russian language, the result was so funny and completely unreadable, he he he, so I quit.
I went through one discussion today, but I should spent more time to get use to them...
Hope to see your new works!!!!!

Yelena, Your new oil painting is so beautiful. It takes a real talented artist to be able to handle all the colors as you have done here! You are painting like I would like to be able to paint - expressive brush strokes and the color says it all. I just love it!!!! You should, however, put the painting in your gallery so everyone can see how beautiful it is. // Concerning comments. I try to go to their page sometimes and see if the artist is full time or just starting out. If they are just starting out and I can see anything I think I can help them with to improve, then I tell them. I try to find at least something that they did "right" and mention that. I might not like the painting, but I did think the "tree" was nice. Nothing encourages you more when you are just starting out than to have another artist say something nice to you. So many new artist do their best, and they know it is not right, they just have no clue what to try. That is where you and I come in.......give them ideas and things to try from our past painting experiences. ///// Did you look at my gray scale 3 pears? I was doing a value compression study. I painted the entire painting in values 3-4-5-6-7 and at the very last added values 1 & 9. It is OK. Not the OH MY when you open it up. Of course I was wanting the OH MY. I really do not know what to do to make it be extra special and get the OH MY! See, even I need your help and the help of others on this site. /// Your English is fine.....I dont have a bit of trouble understanding you and I dont think anyone else will either. /// I have a French speaking friend in Canada. She uses a translation program where she types it in French and it changes it to English. That is a bit odd at times, but I still can understand what she is saying enough that we have become very good friends. /// Not have a vehicle when you need one can be so stressful!!! I am sorry you had to go through that - no fun. Now you have the truck so that is better for you. //// I look forward to our next visit! (smile) Ro

Oh, Roena!
I'm so sorry again, that I could not write you faster!
We were busy looking for a newer truck for my husband. He is doing construction work, so he needs a truck, but ours died couple of weeks ago. I had to borrow my friend's car etc... Eventually we bought it last weekend, then I had to work and so on.
Thank you very much for the link you gave me, I enjoy it a lot.
I also got an email suggesting to make comments on other artists works, I agree with it, but there are some complications for me. First of all it's my English, second- I do not comment works which I do not like (sorry, but at least I'm honest, LOL) and another reason it's hard to say something when you do not know artist's basic level, I always feel uncomfortable.... Hey, I got confused...
Meanwhile I'm trying oils and I feel a little more confident, but not really ha-ha..
I'd really love to hear from you!

RV and art will work. Our dining table is my studio, arranged where everything has a place to live and does not move when we "move". I "clear the table" & if I have a wet canvas it gots in the shower on the easel where nothing can touch it. 16x20 size fits OK there. I could do larger - you just have to plan and think where a wet oil painting could live while driving down the road.. I painted Sandra's Iris Pic which is a full sheet of 300# WC paper on the dining table so it can be done. /// Unbelievable! That your art did not sell!!! I am sure it is ONLY because you did not show it in the right place. I once heard a "good" thing for an artist to do was to find out what the "new colors" for the season of home decorating would be each year and use those colors to paint with. It is a thought. These days, people want all their colors they decorate with to go together. The new RV's have slide outs that make the interior very big. Our motorhome has no slides. We bought it new before they were popular. We have been full timers since 1998 and have traveled in many of the western USA and central southeast states. The past year we have been touring New Mexico and Colorado. Thanksgiving will be in Big Bend National Park (Texas) to camp with our daughter and her family. Planning on spending the winter on the far south tip of Texas. I am a birder (love to watch birds) and that is a birder's heaven! http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.jrcompton.com/pho... This is a green jay that is seen there. The red bird is a male cardnal. I just love colorful birds. he he Ro

Hi, Roena!
Your RV life is what my husband dreams about. When I was doing some art shows I met a couple who traveled a lot, working and participating in shows. They seamed to be happy! I'm not sure if I could do it, because I need certain place for work and I'm getting attached to it!
When I painted my silks it needed a lot of space. I do not paint them anymore.
Thank you very much for taking your time looking at my fabrics, I did them for my friend's request. She asked me gave me fabrics and paints, so I did not have a choice! LOL. Unfortunately I could never make money with my art.... I sold some of my watercolors and that's it! When I could not sell even one piece at the show in 2004 I quit painting...
I wish I could show you my ceramic, but I do not have my files. I keep my old slides and do not have time to scan them.
Wish you to go through the course and make new pictures, just feel free in your soul and have no fear!
Where do you travel, by the way if it's not a secret?
Comment by Roena King on September 25, 2010 at 16:02
Yelena, actually we call our daughter's ranch in Texas "home" so we have a perment address for driver's license and such. We travel all the time in our RV motorhome. Great life as I get to go to beautiful places all the time. I am spending my time going through Richard's color course. I hope to be able to learn enough to keep my colors from going chalky as you said. LOL My new works are on hold until I finish the course. I try to be a good student. I sent you another note earlier.
