My art journey began by painting flowers in watercolours and this is one of my earlier paintings before launching into oils! Although it was one of my first paintings it is one I've kept and enjoy every day! It's on Arches hot pressed watercolour paper and measures 32" x 29".

Wow - thanks Michael.  This was painted about 15 years ago but I have notes which I've referred to.  I've mixed up some paints this morning and photographed my results which I think will make it easier to explain.  I use good quality Schminke watercolour paints whenever possible.  The 1st column, grey-green, is a mix of Prussian Blue and Burnt Sienna, the next is Sap Green from a tube (the colour differs greatly I've found depending on the make), the 3rd column is a Sap Green which I've mixed from Pthalo Green, Translucent Orange plus Aureolin and the 4th column Sap Green mixed with just Pthalo Green and Translucent Orange. The upper leaf has the note Pthalo Blue and Burnt Sienna next to it. Hope this is helpful. Have a wonderful Christmas.

Hey Fay, would you mind giving us a tutorial on how you painted those wonderful greens.

Great work Fay!  I absolutely love your wonderful gradation of light and tonal values across the form!!!!   I also love the very soft gradations withing the petals, giving them the illusion of delicacy they deserve.  I like how you saved the most intense color for that area just before the petal goes into shadow!  The beautiful grays of your leaves makes the golden colors seem more intense then you actually painted them!! ..very good.  :)))
