I know what you are talking about! :) ...this design is good,  it is just a very small value problem with your darks ...nothing major!!! ...just scumble some atmosphere color over those background trees. ...that should fix the problem.

Thanks Michael, your points are spot on. My current problem is that i need so much energy to find my subject. I drive around forever and when i finally start i don't have the patience and passion to come up with a good design.

Great sense of  sun filled light on this one Thomas!! :))  Watch that slanting horizon as the river rounds the bend.  Also, try to compose curves with a series of straight lines ...I think you will like the look of that much more?  Watch your tonal values between your foreground elements and the background trees ..
