Very good light effect and impressive knife stroke, so 3 dimensional. I like it!
i hear ya about the control..i love palette knife painting but sometime i end up just glomming up all the paint on the pallette and colors tend to mush together. the more i'm learning about color, the less that appeals to me. but i do love the process!!
Hi All, thanks for your comments. That was about the amount of reflected light I actually saw. Not helped by having the setup lit and my painting in near darkness :-) In retrospect, and as I have done before, I should have had the painting surface lit too. Incidentally I have found that painting with a knife does not use huge amounts more paint - maybe 20% extra - so my Scots ancestors are not spinning in their graves. On the down side there is a lot less control.
i'm a big fan of thick paint!! - and i agree more light bouncing around the cloth and vase would make it sing!!
Hi John ... what a nice composition. I like the solid nature of the pot playing against the orange slices. Agree with Ross and Annie that the pot would really "sing" with more reflected light.
MMMMM very interesting John Textures look great too Am thinking maybe there needs to be a little more reflected colour in the pot?? but then who am I to be a critic as very new to oils and feel embarrassed evenn saying anything really. However this catches my eye and gets a like from me
