12 X 12 acrylic on board done with pallet knife. Same scene only with the pallet knife. liking it better. I think I liked finger painting too when I was a child so this does me good. The sun is coming low from the left or west. What do you think

Michael, i can't say enough about how grateful I am for your comments! Constructive criticism is what I have been looking for and your comments go a long way with me. Thank you. WALDA

Hi Walda.  Your painting holds are attention due to your very nice composition and minimal 5 shapes.  This is an "L" type composition and you have composed it with only 5 value shapes.  Your sky takes a lot of space, but you have made it interesting .. and it is creating wonderful contrasts with the ground planes.  A few thoughts to consider.  You state the sunlight is coming from the left, but we see no sunlight.  I would suggest that you take sunlight color ..a very light value ..and paint it across the background field.  Your focal point will be at the intersection of the "L" ..and there you could really build up the light  ...gradating it as it goes to the right.  Then you could paint streaks of sunlight coming from between the trees on the left ...the value you have now, would be the shadow ...now you have light and shadow!! ..and a focal point!!  One last thing, remove the tree trunk from  the edge of the picture.  You could leave  a little of it at the bottom.  A great concept Walda and a nice composition ..just needs a little more excitement by adding sunlight !!

I did have fun & also learned something about becoming looser. The trees actually look like the wind is blowing a bit so I was happy with the results. Thanks for comment!
