Thanks Saghi and Michael for your input.

I started another approach on this subject and took a photo. I wanted to paste it into this comment but that doesn't work on my ipad. Is there a way? Thanks

Value is King.

Thanks, Michael and Saghi.

I tried to keep the value of the apple flat and turn shape with color for better design. Well I tried but didn't manage to get the right feelinng of space. This aspect of painting is still confusing to me. We are told that accurate values are crucial for good realism. Then we are told to flatten the values for better design.
My highlights are over the top.
So I think it is a good idea to do another one of this or more.

Hi Thomas,  I like your use of gradation for the foreground and background ..very good.   The edge between the pear shape and the apple shape are incorrect.  As it is now, the apple does not sit behind the pear, but is merged with it.  I think you need to darken the shadow side of the apple ...that way, the contrast will bring the pear in front of the apple.  Also, soften the edges of your grape highlights so it merges into the grape color .. ..THEN, put a spot of light on top of that.  The technique is best described:  Make it, then break it, then make it again.  ...Same thing with the apple ..you kind of did it with the pear.
