9x12 I have painted it month ago. I wasn't very happy with it, so I leave it along till now. It looks better than I thought.

The main thing is to make your elongated rectangle of water a more interesting  ..shape.  You have many ways to do that.  BTW, to lead the viewer from front to back, you go dark to light ...we humans like to go toward the light.

Michael, Thank you soooo much! I see your point here. My intention was using lighter color water to lead viewer from front to back, then to mountain to clouds, but it is not very clear I think. If I modify little bit middle ground water that can make the painting connected together may be?

Hi Laura.  The sky, hills, and foreground as far a color and value are fantastic.  Your sky and hill are well designed shapes ..you see ..shapes ..not sky and hill ...well designed shapes ...you nailed that.  Now, that strip of water in the middle ground ..not a well designed shape ...nether is the foreground land masses.  A vertical element is needed, like you said, to connect the foreground to the background plane.  You could eliminate the straight line of the left land mass by extending the mass out into the water along the left edge? ..but make it an interesting shape.  That would give that land mass a better shape, and by way of negative space, give the water a better shape.  Laura, when you design you painting, think unequal space division, good shapes, and value structure.  Try and design it so your darks and lights are connected ..they do not need to be physically connected, but close.  Don't forget, that the water is usually darker then the sky in value.

Thank Jon for your thoughtful comment! I kind of understand what you mean. May be it needs some vertical element to balance the painting. Also I do feel the water in the middle is little bit flat. The sky color seems bluer than really painting.

Well done or getting the feel of rain - dunno how!! - must be the color? What I feel is that this one and the previous one feel a bit 'empty' somehow... ? ....
