I like this color study, You have a good tast of color, very nice and your knife work too. Your workshop2 is another beautiful one. I like it very much.

thanks for your comments stu - this was only a very speedy little study - i was so anxious to get back at painting after being away so long...just dashed it off...i did do a few black and white studies..i don't think i know what the posterize tool is...i have yet to get proficient at photo shop!...hoping to get back up there today - i'm working on a larger version as well...trying to get loose and throw paint around - and i cropped it a bunch at the bottom...maybe too much?

Susie, interesting composition with plenty of chroma.  Your clouds are competing with your snow and it's hard to differentiate the distant mountains from the snow.  Print out and look at your 4 or 5 value study and your 2 value study (Notan)  in Photoshop using your conversion to B&W and then the posterize tool.  You need more separation of your value masses to make this work well.  You might try a small (6 by 6 inch) value study before you go larger with marking pens or with paint.  Look at Chris Roughton's value study, notan and her final painting (it is only a 6 by 6 inch work); she has great separation of her values.  You may also want to lighten up your highlights a little.  Hope my critique does not offend you; I really do like your clean color and thick paint.  Stu
