10 x 18in, oil on linen.
Continuing my series of paintings of Reykjavík.
I kind of like it, but something is not working.

Any ideas ?

I think it could do with moving the house to the left slightly. At the moment the house 'looks out'  too close to the right side. Personally I don't have any objection to the roof cropping the top of the painting. It gives it a snapshot feel.

A good painting though and I like the brushwork and the treatment.

Thank you guys for you suggestions. They are all very good and valid. I think I will try and simplify and soften the part of the house kissing the edge of the canvas. I do like that the you cant see the whole house, but it isn´t working like this.
There is something about working for many session on one painting that I dont like. But I will do it for this one and try and make it better :)

It's a lovely painting!   Maybe if you don't care if it's a true representation of the house, an option would be to take out the top windows & change that part to a plain dark red roof, leaving a little sky showing over it, as Stu suggested?

Pauline is correct about the roof; you have some rather strong elements "kissing" the edge of the canvas and this draws the eye out of the painting. A little sky above the roof or cropping a little more off the top might help. You might just try taking 2 "L" shaped pieces of art board and move them around to see which crop works best. Great painting; keep at it! Stu

Really liking this series of paintings.  i think that by not having space above the roof could be restricting the house somewhat. Also, Stu's comment about cropping the left a little would work, taking the house a bit more off centre.  Maybe if you were to cool and dull down the top of the house it would make the spotlight more intense and lead the eye away from the roof area...just a thought!  a fabulously strong painting/design though!

Try cropping in your photo editor to reduce the right or the left side to make the painting more asymmetric. Nice work. Stu
