Thank you Susan. I hope I get to put some more lights in it like Michael suggested. Just finding the time to do it is the problem, I am sure everyone has the same problem, and I have already learned a lot this time. Can't wait to see everyone's painting.
Nice! I like the way you handled the water!
Really challenging Sherry, isn't it? And you are right, so many things to think about in just one painting...
Thanks for the critique Michael. I just did as you suggested with Richard's painting to black and white, and I see the difference. I also pulled my to b/w with Picasso, and I do see my values are very close. Hopefully next weekend I can work more with the values in this painting, It will be dry, so not sure if that will help it or hurt it, but I do love the glow of Richard's and I will try to put more of that into mine, unless it is too late, but next time around I will start out with the values like you suggested. There is a lot to learn and think about at one time when painting.
Good job Sherry. You just need to bring more warm colors into play ...especially in the glow part of the cliff, sky, and ocean. The beach really requires warmer colors with cool shadows. Put some warmer darks into that foreground cliff. If you squint, you will see that most of your painting is one value. Take a look at Richards painting in B/W and note the values he uses ..then try and arrange your painting in those values ..think value first, then color.
