Ann, Richard wanted us to work on our value structure and said that the Zorn palette works great on a completely overcast rainy day.   Remember, if there is no blue sky, the water will be a muddy gray, because it's color comes from reflecting the sky above.  He cheated and put in some cad yellow light; I used cad lemon yellow (pretty similar).  Notice how some of the grays have a bluish cast; that is the ivory black and next to reds, and yelllows is will appear even bluer.  So with the Zorn palette you just substitute your ivory black for your blue with yellow ochre and cad red light as your yellow and red.  This is a primary palette with the red full chroma, the yellow partially desaturated and the blue completely desaturated (ivory black).  I don't think that Zorn originated the palette, but his name is on it.  Johannes' son Kenneth gave a course using the Zorn palette about a year ago.  Interesting exercise and perfect day for it.   Stu

The little tile roofs across the way bring a nice bright spot. Did you want to use the Zorn palette or were you limited to that by the workshop ? I would love to see an little sweep of grey blue in the water. Just personal taste
