Thank you very much Joy and Michael for your comments!! Michael, you made very good suggestions. I will try it to see how it works. Thanks.
Xiao, your darkest dark is the dark in the tree at the right foreground . ALL of your other dark value shapes should be lighter than that darkest dark. Use that as your gauge for the other dark value shapes in your painting.
The "Darks" within the trees should be the darkest ...darker then the shadows on the ground. The ground shadows are lighter because they reflect the sky color ..or anything else that is around it. So, leave the trees alone and lighten up the cast shadows on the ground ..try a greenish blue (cerulean or a mix of UB + yellow + white) with some Raw Sienna and a little violet. Then .."Bend" the tones as needed.
Thank you Michael for your suggestions. I felt the sky was too blue too. I should add some green and yellow to it. But I am not sure about lighting up the foreground shadow. The trees are under the sun. Should them be llighter than the shadow?
Great "L" or "Circle" composition!!! Good, unequal space division and good negative shapes. I would like to suggest to you 2 things: 1. Your tree will be the darkest value, so lighten up your foreground grass in shadow and any other cast shadows. 2. the hay bail is your focal point ..so maybe give it some more size so it does not get lost out there. 3. You have blue sky and green grass/trees .....see if you can unify the two. Hint: put more sky color into your shadows, and mix some yellow into your blue sky mix ...especially on the left, nearer the sun. :))
