Hi Nancy No no no I definitely had oranges Just didnt have orange paint so had to make the colour with mixing yellos and cad red Ha ha Thank you so much for your critique Its so much easier to see faults once they are picked out You know somethings wrong but cant quite figure it out as there is so much to look at. You are right darkest darks and lightest lights I see that now It sets the values. All the best and have a great day and thanks again for you time and positive comments so appreciate it.

Hi Annie. This is a much better photo. I'm sure the colors are truer to the actual painting. Since you asked for a crit, I will try to give you some suggestions. Li is right about the shadow on the bowl. I like Richard's idea about putting in the darkest dark and the lightest light first. Then nothing will be darker or lighter than that. Try that, and I think it might help you right at the beginning. It did for me. I can't believe what a good job you did on those oranges not having any to look at. Good job. Another thing that might help is that when you are nearing completion, punch up the highlights by adding really bright bits of light. You did a bit on the pitcher, but could have done more on those oranges and even on the edge of the bowl. Your composition is really a winner. It leads the eye into and around the painting. I also love the sensitive way you handled the detail on the cloth. That must have been quite a challenge. Your overall painting is just lovely. The more we paint, the more we learn. Let's keep at it and keep on growing. Hope this helps a bit. :-)

You are welcome, Annie. There are many painters will be ready to help us here. Just like you did to me tell them to criticize your work, they will do it.  I also need you and other painters' help . I was so moved, like you, when I saw their effort to improve me, I want to do the same, that is it. God Bless you too.

Thanks Li See what you mean about the white bowl reflections/shadow which I have largely ignored. So nice of you to take the time to comment So glad I re photographed. I do thank you for positive comments regarding the composition and drawing it gives me confidence to carry on and not give up. Also the colour I did realise was lacking I do not have an orange so had to make it myself and feel that is why it was lacking. I will certainly look at Stuart and Barbars compositions and colour as you suggest Thanks again Li I appreciate your time and very constructive comments God Bless you.

Wow, what a difference! First thank you for your trust, as our teacher can not critiques everybody we have to help ourselves. Thank you also make an effort to take a new photo. I will try my best but as I am not old hand either, please just take my word as an reference no more than that. I like your setup of composition as it is very elegent and have a good  balance of value and colour variation by careful design of the location of the items. Your drawings are very good in proportion. The painting is united by very good composition. Your colour is very realistic, very nice. As for something can be improved in my eye is that if I were you I would paint those oranges more saturated. Same colour but more paint than water. It will make your orange looks juicy. Your pitcher is white but very saturated, beautiful. Another thing is the shadow of the white bowl, please check your photo . the direction of the light . it can be better. Your background can be darker too as it will make your setup standout more, Among those Good examples are ones of Stuart and Barbara and Oh, I forgot. Anyway, those deep RICH dark background support the white and grey setup better as I believe. Just a kind of view.
