It was the strong contre-jour that interested me... come to think of it I already have a painting that's similar, I'm going to have to study the values and try to get lighter and more color in there...

Thanks, Michael - that's valuable input - wipe out the lights, you mean, I guess... OK... I'll redo it - thanks a bundle!

Jon, If your concept is going to be contre-jour, then your light must be much, much lighter and the light must  envelope everything. Also, on composition:  You have 2 equal masses on each side of the river and the river smack dab in the middle of these 2 equal masses! ...you are too much of an accomplished painter to make that kind of a blunder.   On technique:  When going for contre-jour, try using the "wipe out" technique ... especially when you have a lot of complex shapes.

Ian, I didn't think of that at all! (too busy thinkiung about the foliage and stuff!) - but Laura and Joy, what you say is so true - don't know how I missed that - re-design being one of Richard's main teaching points (did you see how well he did it in the ebook?!!) Thanks, Rose!

Jon, The composition is very nice, and I like the relationship between light, dark, warm and cool. You may want some trees to lean into the painting rather than all lean out of the painting.
