nice job!! i really like your trees, they are well balanced, and your rocks! this was my first workshop as well. excited to learn more. :)
Hello Ana, Many thanks for your comments, I really appreciate you taking the time to give me your advice. I have found myself staring at my painting trying to work out what is wrong with it. I had an inkling it might be something with the values, so it is really helpful to get your opinion. I have another half finished version which I intended to bury somewhere but your constructive criticism has encouraged me to finish it, putting into practice your advice. I'm pretty much of a beginner and this, my first workshop attempt, I have found hugely educational and a very valuable way to learn many fundamentals. But I realise there is so much to learn and that I have so much to learn. So your encouragement and valuable advice are so helpful and just what I need. Many thanks.
Good job, Mairo! You put a lot of work into your painting! I like your boulders and rocks. To achieve depth to your painting you should reduce the value of the Dome and mountain. As they are now they have the same saturation with the boulder and rocks in the foreground. Therefore all the plains in your painting (background, middle ground and foreground ) are jumping in your face, so you have to push back you mountain and even father back the Dome. To do that, you should add white to your mountain and even more white to your Dome. White cools down the saturation (intensity) of the colour and that's what you need to achieve distance or aerial perspective. Happy painting!
Beautiful foreground.
Charming!
