Beautifully painted, Lori - the sheen on the white vase, the fabric, petals, everything in fact!

I'm always up for learning Thomas... Can you direct me to any masterworks that show this? My goal is to keep improving -- one of the best things about this site is the discussion and critique. As much as I get very into detail, I've felt I need to work at being more 'painterly'..sort of an identity crisis going on..I'm not sure where it will lead me..if I'm meant to continue with representational pieces or become more abstract/loose, juicier brushwork. I love it all and haven't figured it out yet:)

Lori, i like this painting and you should leave it there. The problem of stressing certain details and simplifying others without loosing unity cannot easily be learned. All we can do is be aware of it and try to gradually move towards. Of course only if the variation of the level of abstraction is something we like. There are other ways and tastes. For me, the skill to suggest things, seen in master pieces, is my greatest motivation to learn painting.
