First cut at the painting, working out values and colors. I focused on the darks of the mountains, trees and rocks, then rhythm of mountain shadows and rolling terrain. These reminded me of a music score with whole, half, quarter and eight notes.

This is so pretty and different. Like the way you did the dark to light with color. Also fun the way you explained it as a music score.

Thanks all. Laura, I use acrylics like watercolors when I am doing color/value studies,   Makes it easier to modify as changes are needed and I can glaze colors on top of colors like in the sky.  The final painting will more impasto if I can ever past the study process.  Thicker applications of paint were used for the rocks and tree.
