After uploading the first painting i felt that it was lacking, sometimes just by putting a painting on the site it makes you reconsider! the water looked so flat and dull......i thought to myself, Pauline, there's so much green and non of its complimentary red, red is quite dark on the grey scale so i felt it would give some much needed contrast. So i put it back on the easel and this is the result....i would be interested to know what you think!!!!

Hi Ann, thank you so much for you valued comments. I take your point re "brick wall effect" i maybe should have used some artistic licence here and popped a path in at the back that probably would have given the eye a way through, shucks! something to bear in mind for next time Ann,  there is so much to making a painting really work.  Thank you for your support! :-}

I do like the addition of the compliment, it makes the other color seem more vibrant. Just another thing to think about for another similar painting is that it would be nice to see an area where the viewer can move back into the painting. The foliage seems to block the viewer as a wall.Your forest paintings are so successful because I can just step into them.

Hi Michael,  Thank you for your critique, i was hoping that you would stop by and give me a helping hand....i have made some changes and looked at a lot of paintings with reflections in them...i think i need a bit more practice at these...i understand exactly what your saying and when i looked at the painting again it was all so obvious.  Thank you for taking the time to help, I need all the input i can get.....I know your not being mean and i would never for a moment think that you were.  Don't stop your critiques they help us all so much.:-}}}

Good analysis of your first painting Pauline!! ...This painting is now unified by the addition of the warmer tones...it is also much more vibrant!!   BTW,  this is not a criticism, but for future reference, you don't really need to paint reflections with such preciseness.....a little more vagueness with your reflections  would enhance the detailed work you did on the foliage...simply by contrast of application.  Be careful with your shapes ....the perfectly rendered reflections of the pink flowers on the left, is creating a circle/ring ..that is  creating a TARGET! Also, be careful of your spacing ...your 3 shapes of pink (flowers) are all equally spaced and of the same shape and size.  That might not seem like a big thing, but you would be surprised how much unequal spacing, size, value, texture, etc. of repeated shapes,  betters the composition by creating more movement and interest......equal spaced intervals are too balanced and static ..and boring (sorry, I am not trying to be mean) Okay, those last few things were critiques. :))
