This is Lolog Lake, in Neuquen's Province, Argentina. I was planning to paint something similar to this in my Alla Prima try...

Thanks Laura! I am happy you can take advantage of it!

Michael, Thanks again! I have had this page open as I was trying to finish my painting, and have just realized I haven't answered...very rude of me... I have changed the glow to AC and yellow and I did try to make that silhoutte a bit more as it is in the picture.

Me Again.  forgot to suggest to you that you might soften the edge where the mountain meets the sun  ..just blend the mountain color into your wet sunlight color .it will fuse nicely.  Be sure to use AC + a little yellow for the glow!  If your mountain in dry by the time you do that, add a little blue/white to this mixture.

A lot better Silvana!!!! ......okay, now your cookin"! ...Okay, DO NOT USE ORANGE AND YELLOW  for the glow around the mountain......use  Alizarin Crimson and a little yellow.  Don't make a ring ...fuse it softly into your mountain color ...which is perfect now.

Now that I see the posted pic I think I have to add more paint everywhere! To lighten the glow a bit I used orange, yellow and the mountains colour. I think it's too light now...

It means thick paint.

Good morning!!!!! WOW!!! Thanks soooo much! I stayed painting until 3 am... I have taken paint from the far away mountains and foreground and used it in the water.... But everything s thinner now...

I will certainly give this another try, with the value study in acrylics and the glazing in oils, AND I will add more sky!! I think that I will be able to manage before the 23rd!

What does thick impasto mean? Is it thick paint?

I will be taking a pic and will post it here again...

Hey, it's me again.  You can probably get by with the value of the foreground? ..BUT, your mountains across the lake are much too dark.  Do you recall what it looked like when you were actually seeing it? ..if you do, then paint it the way you remember seeing it. I would paint the mountains a blue/violet ..a few steps lighter then the value of your foreground....use your foreground value as your guide to the value of the mountains across the lake.   As the mountains near the sun glow, make it warmer by introducing more aliz. crimson and yellow ..painted wet into wet into your base color.  If your painting is still wet, try rubbing some of that dark color out.  After you paint your mountain, take that color and paint the mountains reflection into the water ..(see Photo) ..don't worry about those long shafts of light yet....use vertical strokes.  Then vertically paint the colors of the water as they are in the photo.  Begin with the lightest light ...your sun reflection ..and then proceed outward from that, painting each band of color vertically.  Bring your color right up next to the dark reflection of the mountain.  Make sure that your water goes from warm (on the right) to cool as it proceeds to the left.  Then you will blend the edges of your color bands horizontally.  Paint the dark waves and ripples in.  Put some thick impasto sparkle on your sun reflection.  Okay, now for that long streak of light on the far shore.  Take the color of the water and load a brush....hold your breath ...and then   Dry brush this color ....without stopping ....across the entire length of the lake. ...now take a breath.  Then re establish the sun highlight.  Anyway, that is the technique I would use ...right or wrong.

Hi Silvana.  A lesson learned for the next painting!!  ...always keep in mind what the painting is about ..is it about the water/land or is it about the sky ..not both....that way your decision on where to put the horizon (not in the middle) is easy....if it is about the sky, then the horizon is low ..if it is about the water or land, the horizon is higher up.  There is a lot more that goes into that, but basically that is the fundamental first thought. BTW, I really like your placement of the setting sun!

This is the way it is so far... I will lighten it...  Sorry about the picture, it's 1200 and the light is bad... Ijust can't take a pic without a glow...
