12X9 oil on board. From Vista House (Crown Point State Park) looking west towards Portland, OR up the Columbia River Gorge. This shows rather darkly on this monitor at the B&B on my recent trip to SFO. Looks fine on my home monitor though. New photos to come...sometime... maybe after getting a color monitor calibrator. Anybody use one of those?

Gosh, thought I made a comment here yesterday, but I must have not hit "add comment."  Yes, Ro it was painting fast...no expectations...just go for it.  Nice tip on the timeline Stu!  Thanks for the likes everyone.   :D

Ro, a good way to calculate how much time you have to paint outdoors near sunset is to hold up your hand  at arms length with your fingers bent at 90 degrees and your index finger right at the bottom of the sun to measure the distance of the sun from the horizon.  You have 15 minutes for each finger or an hour for the hand (as long as you still have 4 fingers on it -- woodworker joke!).  I got this from Larry Seiler an avid plein air painter and instructor.   Stu

Nicely done en plein air.  I have not tried that time of the day yet.  Bet you had to move fast to capture it before the light went away.  smile

Thank you Christine and Mary and everyone.  I appreciate comments and also welcome suggestions.  The photo looks a little dark on the computer where I was staying in San Francisco this past weekend.  Need to figure this one out....maybe trying Stuart's suggestion with the white paper and color balance to white.  Ah well...it is what it is...I enjoy being a part of this painting community.

Do you think we will be doing another sunset next month?  I'll be gone for 2 wks, but hope I can participate some in the workshop.

Yes, the Columbia River Gorge is a beauty!  The sunrises are lovely too but you have to get up so early to catch them in the summer...now it's a little later.  Thank you for you nice comments Silvana, Stu & Linda.
