I was thinking more to the warm side of the wheel Jon .... more red/violet ...  your yellow/greens would gray it, and the orange color of your boat will give you warm "browns" when mixed into the red/violet.  I would not worry about the too dark thing ... you need the contrast of the mans white shirt against it to pop! ...  if you need to lighten it, you can always add a little white or yellow/green.

Thanks, Michael - I was going to do it 'purple' and green? - I hesitated cos I was worried about it being too dark...

The interior of the reeds, Jon, is NOT  being influenced by the sky ... soooo ....
