Julia, I just love the Arches Oil Paper, but I was trained as a water colorist and am fond of painting on paper.  Plus the price is so much cheaper than quality canvas linen.

Caveat:  The paper does absorb the initial layer of paint somewhat.  After blocking in the main shapes the following applications of paint were just fine.
