Bit of tweaking - not really worth posting - I reckon I'll put out big piles of oil paint and see what happens (disaster probably ;( )

Thanks, Michael - anyway I can't get the oils out just yet - next week maybe
Hey Jon, I ALWAYS get into trouble when I try to imagineer too much!!! .... wow, you would need to radically change EVERYTHING in this painting to do so in contre-jour! .... suggest you start a new painting with that in mind .. but do some value sketches and then some color sketches first ... go very small on these ... no drawing .. just value or color notes. See what you like and then paint the Masterpiece!!! :))
Hi, Aurelia and Michael - good points you make thanks! What's nagging me is that I saw it in my mind's eye as contre-jour - dunno wheether to try that or not! - would have to imagine too much
You know Jon, your painting is pretty good .. Aurelia makes a good point. Anyway, your drawing is good, your concept is good. Jon, may I suggest that you alter the value, tone, and temperature of the reds as they recede into the distance .... the red roofs of the houses are coming way forward ... they look as though they are part of the foreground boats. Also, be careful of those rigging lines and mast all meeting exactly at the top edge of your canvas .. that is a real "nasty" tangent happening there. Anyway, all boils down to a few tweaks with the compo, edges, values, and color temps. Pretty nice painting, I would not give up on it.
Haha! Thank sounds like me too! The big piles of paint. Then I paint a bit and let the expensive piles of paint dry! The painting looks lovely thou! Nice colour harmony. I always like orange/red against blue. But the composition need something on the left side as my eye flow out of the painting the same way the building does behind the island. Put a tree, or lift the island or a distant mountain there.
