good for you, Kevin, for creating your own original scene. We all are learning so much from Richard that I know you will really love the workshop.

Thank you Craig.  I am in the midst of learning how to better use/ capture color so workshops like these will hopefully assist with that learning.

Thank you Montalvo.  I almost did not do this but then I thought, what's the point of paying for it if I won't even try?!      I am seeing a lot of really nice work on this site.

First time doing one of these workshops or really doing anything with The Complete Artist.  I recently joined VAA to learn how to oil paint and was referred to to this site.  With this workshop, I took the liberty of creating a totally different scene (using 2 different photos) and trying to create the same effect as Richard's painting.  By trying to create my own scene, I think I made this more difficult on myself because the original was a mid-day sunny cloudless sky. I tried to work from a notan sketch I created where the darker linked shape was to start at the lower right and connect up through the cliffs,  go left and up into a darker cloud mass.  I was not successful at using the color values properly to do this.  I think I took too much on by trying to create a new scene, figuring out how to apply a different light setting to that scene while properly mixing correct color and values based on Richard's painting.  I think the scene could have worked a bit better if I had spent more time doing some value sketches and color studies to get a better sense on how to execute this.  It was fun though.
