This painting was done for friends who commissioned me to paint the view from their house and now they would like a second painting for another family member. I didn't find this an easy subject and would appreciate comments/critiques as to how I might be able to change or improve on my first painting. My thoughts are to perhaps change the time of day or make it landscape, but that would mean losing some of the sky. I would welcome advice!

Thank you Ann - I'll certainly keep those words in mind when I paint the second version.

Great advice this, here is a little more. Paint with JOY, COLOR, and MOVEMENT. Be happy painting and share the experience of your adventure thru your painting !

Saghi and Michael thank you so much for your comments and also for the links you sent Saghi - Richard McKinley's article on applying the theory of light to painting blue skies is very interesting.  I will try and be much more adventurous with colour in the next painting and use more darks and lights and warms and cools.  Thank you both once again.

Hi Fay.  Saghi has made some very interesting points that I agree with....more contrast of light and dark and warms and cools  .as Saghi suggested.   If you concentrate on the foreground ...strong contrasts of sunlight and shadow (darks and lights) and using a variety of warm and cool tones, the background will recess more into the distance due to the contrast.   Also, open up that little area of grass a little.
