Yes, I have heard Richard say that. I need to practice that principle more. It certainly worked here ( =

Christine, thanks. To make the lighting works the key is to grey dwon anything around it.This is one of many things I learned here.

Michael, You make me smile. In fact I tried to make them the same  but failed.  Now I know that they should not be all the same. Or it will be boring, yes? I will remember it for the next time. Thank you . Yes, you can use them to play. I am flattered.

Thank you Silvana, As I want to show the shadow of the windows and the walls, I changed the grey to a lighter yellowish. To make the house stand out I darker the sky and ignore the big building next to it. The colour of the painting is warmer than the photo I see on my computer. Use purple colour in the shadow to make strong contrast to the light part. Maybe it is too clumsy, anyway it is a beginning to try. Today I am struggling with my workshop20. Something abnormally new for me to paint. I failed to hand in homework for workshop19. No mater however, I will upload my work for W20.

Mario, Thank you. In fact, I just started to learn how to paint houses and buildings. This is a simple house, a little bit boring. I was lured by those shadows and lights. So I started to manipulate it as a practice.  Last week, I went to downtown Lima three times to take photos of those really old buildings. I am not attempt to paint like you did, too difficult and too much detailes. I just want to get some flavor of those old architecture.  Most of them will soon  disapaer to give space to those new urgly tall buildings like matches boxes without style.

Ningning, this is just a doggone great painting!!  You managed the repetitive shapes of the architecture like the pro you are!!   .....There are no 2 shapes alike ....anywhere!!  May I put this into my computer for future educational purposes?
