Michael, Thank you so so much for your comments! You told me the key point on how to paint still life. I really appreciate it. I am going to paint more still life to improve my skill.
I agree with everyone Laura ..I would like to add that you achieved a very nice textural quality both tactile and illusion wise. A few things, my friend: 1. Strive for continuity of your shadows ..both cast and body shadows. 2. Most of the time (there are exceptions, I guess) you want to have an ODD number of elements. In this painting, one of the cups on the right is not needed. The little cup on the left does not have enough "weight" to balance the heavy "weight" on the right. 3. You need a focal point. Something needs to be "different" ..whether it be the color, value, texture, shape, the amount of light falling on an object, etc. ....something that really stands out. 4. You have quite a lot of "Repetition" going on ...mostly with your color, texture, and shapes ...but that Repetition needs a little "Variety" ...Hey, Laura ..hope you don't mind the critique? :))
Thank you Jon!
Ann, I will look for some places for us to paint as well.
Yes! - very nice - the limited palette really works super well!
