Hi Jon, I love your painting overall its well done. I used to be a boatbuilder and worked on boatyards, from that perspective, I miss the tressles from your painting, they secure the boat from falling over. Without them it looks like they are floating in the air, its a bit more surreal. I love the shadows and the bold brushstrokes.

Hi, Linda - ta!

Robert - yeah, just keep trucking and enjoying!

Michael - yep, I know - I've made the changes - except the mast spacing - even cropping the photo won't help with that

No, I am not talking about the "feet".  I am referring to the cast shadow at the bottom of the boat ....have it connect to the bottom edge of your canvas .... the "feet" are fine. :)

Robert - I've basically given up ;( - I just keep going because I enjoy it - and I say to myself that, maybe, If I do it long enough I'll 'catch' a few reasonable ones!

Thanks again, Steinununn - it's come out lighter than I intended - which is very very rear for me!

OK, Michael! - my daughter says it's cute because it looks like its got little feet!!! - so I put the props in - I'll adjust as per your comments and re-post (and I've done a third one of the subject...)

Nice energetic brushwork Jon.  I find your  perspective very dynamic.  I have mentioned this as I have viewed other artists posts ....  be mindful of those nagging equal spaces .. such as your masts are creating.  Also the space between the edges of your canvas and the boats is the same on both sides.  Your probably thinking that I am nitpicking, but the unequal space division and proper proportion are so critical to good design and esthetic beauty of the painting.  Now, one more thing.  I think if you connect the cast shadow of the main boat to the bottom of the canvas, it will anchor (pun not intended) the boat to the picture plane.  The way it is now, it just sits out there ..kind of floating in space.

Good job Jon!  I agree, difficult!  Going to try another boat today (and with a different background, I found that REALLY hard).
