Another for the Let's Paint New Mexico challenge. 12 x 9 Water Soluble Oil. Think I need to lighten up that gate a bit.

Thanks Cristina! Michael is so wonderful to share his knowledge, couldn't be getting advise from anyone better!
Charming work Candi!! How great advice from Michael!
Thanks Michael! I think after this Paint New Mexico event, I'm going to stop even trying to paint until I start taking the Virtual Art Online classes! I don't understand half of what I should be doing. Now I'm changing most of that chile ristra painting.
Well, I think so ..BUT ....it looks like the light is coming from the upper right? ...putting the fence into shadow. The "white" would then be shadowed white ..the side of the post looks like it would be in the sunlight ..so a warm white made with white + a cool blue/ gray + orange + a small amount of yellow. Blue + Red + yellow + white will give you the shadowed white. But into that you must put warm reflected light ...add yellow ocher/ orange, or something like that. Some green would also be in the reflections. The half tone white I would make with UB + yellow ocher + a little red. In any case, the gate can be resolved with ..lets see ......in 4 values. Make sure you put some highlight on the top of the gate. You know Candi, I would also bring the shadow of the planter all the over to the edge ..no sense have a little light strip there. Make sure you put reflected warm light into that white gate!
Yes, had it white, then changed it to a dark something...should I go back to white Michael?
Was that a white gate?
